ZASOLAR aims to enhance access to sustainable/renewable energy in underserved areas in Malawi through innovative distribution approaches involving often excluded groups such as women and youth. Their approach focuses on being affordable and efficient in reaching the last-mile and hard-to-reach rural areas with solar lanterns, solar home systems, and approved sustainable charcoal from planted trees. Their objectives are; to provide access to affordable solar power systems to households, small businesses, and institutions, to provide access to alternative energy and efficient technologies for cooking, to improve education through the distribution of affordable reading lights to students and teachers, to improve irrigation agriculture through the issuance of affordable water pumping systems to farmers, to create income generation opportunities for youth and women through an inclusive and participatory agent network, to contribute towards the development of skills and local innovations in the renewable space, to advocate for entrepreneurship and against climate change to educate people on income generation through alternative energy sources.
